The Calculator (2014) is a gritty, fast-paced Russian survival science-fiction thriller that blends the harsh, psychological tension of The Condemned with the barren, alien aesthetic of Pitch Black. Directed by Dmitriy Grachev, the film relies heavily on its stark, otherworldly visuals—shot entirely on location in the volcanic landscapes of Iceland—to create a sense of absolute isolation. The movie explores themes of totalitarian control, human nature under extreme pressure, and the triumph of pure cold logic over brute force.
